Though I've been interested in flying and airplanes for as long as I remember, I didn't learn to fly until 1995, when I was 55 years old. For several years before I actually started taking lessons, I would watch planes taking off and landing through our kitchen window. The closest I had ever come to flying was watching Luke Skywalker in Star Wars countless times with our son. No one in my family is a pilot and, in fact, I didn't even know anyone who flew small airplanes. Then one day, in the dead of winter, I drove up to the airport near our home, walked in and asked how I could go about learning to fly. I signed up for ground school and in two years earned my pilot's license. And now I'm going to fly in the Air Race Classic, which has fascinated me since I took my first lesson. Rosemary is the current Treasurer for the Michigan Chapter of the 99s.
